here are three early albums by Animal Collective. the first is called "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished", released under the name "Avey Tare and Panda Bear". you'll find lots of fun stuff in here, lofi-pop-noise type of stuff. very good! next is "Danse Manatee", a slightly more extreme album, of which the word "noise" would more aptly describe. this was released under the name "Avey Tare, Panda Bear, and Geologist". finally is an EP called "Prospect Hummer", which they did with a singer named Vashti Bunyan, an obscure, older folk musician. they're all good!

this is what the beach boys released after the infamous "SMiLE" album was cancelled. compared to what SMiLE would have been, this is a very stripped down, home-made sounding recording, and when taken on its own merits, it proves to be a very interesting listen. Also, it's got studio mixes of "Heroes and Villains" and "Good Vibrations", two of the best songs around.
